Ticket Sales for 2023 ODI World Cup in India Set to Commence on August 25.

Cricket enthusiasts worldwide can mark their calendars for August 25, as this marks the beginning of ticket sales for the much-anticipated 2023 ODI World Cup, scheduled to take place across India. With just over 40 days remaining before the commencement of the tournament on October 5, this announcement by the ICC brings a wave of excitement among fans.

The update from the ICC followed the release of the revised schedule for the World Cup, which had been eagerly awaited. Notably, alterations were made to nine matches, including the high-profile encounter between arch-rivals India and Pakistan.

The ticket sales will unfold in several phases, with the first phase encompassing matches not involving the Indian cricket team, both in the warm-up phase and during the main tournament. Subsequently, a six-phase sale approach will be implemented for games featuring the Indian team. This includes their warm-up matches against England (Guwahati, September 30) and Netherlands/Sri Lanka (Thiruvananthapuram, October 3), as well as their matches in the main event.

The detailed ticket sale schedule is as follows:

  • August 25: Warm-up and World Cup matches not involving India
  • August 30: Warm-up matches featuring India in Guwahati and Thiruvananthapuram
  • August 31: India’s World Cup matches in Chennai (vs Australia, Oct 8), Delhi (vs Afghanistan, Oct 11), and Pune (vs Bangladesh, Oct 19)
  • September 1: India’s World Cup matches in Dharamsala (vs New Zealand, Oct 22), Lucknow (vs England, Oct 29), and Mumbai (vs Sri Lanka, Nov 2)
  • September 2: India’s World Cup matches in Kolkata (vs South Africa, Nov 5) and Bengaluru (vs Netherlands, Nov 12)
  • September 3: India’s World Cup match in Ahmedabad (vs Pakistan, Oct 14)
  • September 15: Semi-finals and final

To ensure fans’ access to timely ticket information and the opportunity to secure their spots at the World Cup, the ICC has introduced a pre-sale registration option, available starting from August 15. Interested individuals can register their interest via https://www.cricketworldcup.com/register. This strategic initiative aims to enhance the experience for both players and fans, contributing to the grandeur of the one-day game’s pinnacle event.

Chris Tetley, ICC’s head of events, emphasized the significance of fan participation, urging enthusiasts to register their interest promptly. “We call on all of cricket’s hundreds of millions of fans to register your interest from next week to ensure you are one of the first to receive ticket news and to be a part of the biggest Cricket World Cup,” Tetley conveyed.

The delay in unveiling the final schedule and ticket plans is a departure from the norm for a World Cup event. A noteworthy comparison can be drawn to the 2019 ODI World Cup in England and Wales, where tickets went on sale in September 2018. Responding to high demand, a fresh ticket sale occurred on March 21, 2019, with the tournament kicking off 70 days later on May 30. The approach for the 2023 ODI World Cup showcases a strategic focus on fan engagement and experience, reflecting the significance of the event in the global cricketing panorama.
