Harry Brook becomes the No. 1 Test batter in the world.

Harry Brook has become the number one ranked ICC Test batsman in rankings after overtaking his teammate Joe Root. Outstanding performances by Harry Brook in the test series against New Zealand elevated him to number one in the latest rankings released. Brook scored 171 runs in the first, 123 runs in the second test, and 55 in the second, which put him just a point ahead of Root.

Brook Incredible Rise

Brook’s ascents to the top have been marvelous. He has already earned an excellent reputation for himself at the young age of 25 due to his aggressive as well as reliable batting. Brook received praise from the world’s top player of the past few years, who declared, “Brooky is by far the best player in the world right now.”

In different situations, Brook is a special player who can score his goals quickly and under pressure. He has played only 23 Test matches, but he gathered 2,280 runs with an average of 61.62 and eight hundreds. He showed his performance under pressure by scoring an outstanding inning against Pakistan in October 2024, which aggregated a massive 317 runs.

Root’s Strength

It is a shame that Joe Root lost the No. 1 ranking, but he remains a legend of the game. He has been at the summit of Test cricket nine times during his career, and his marvelous century with 106 runs on the second Test against New Zealand is testimony to his greatness.

Root has been an integral part of England for more than a decade. He has scored over 12,000 runs and 30 centuries. Brook may be the future, but Root’s experience and class are still essential for England’s success.

The Final Test Could Decide

The final Test of the tour, starting on December 14 in Hamilton against New Zealand, will also see which player will remain as no. 1 after Root could overtake him, and he has already ensured his win as England leads 2-0.

Others are rising in Rankings

It’s not just Brook and Root making waves in the rankings. Australia’s Travis Head has risen to fifth place after his match-winning 140 in the first Test against India. South Africa’s Temba Bavuma, who scored 327 runs in their series win against Sri Lanka, has climbed to seventh place.

Australian batsman Marnus Labuschagne also is improving. His 64 in the pink-ball Test against India helped him jump to 13th place in the rankings.

Top Bowlers in Action

India’s Jasprit Bumrah remains No. 1 in the bowling rankings, with South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada close behind. Pat Cummins, Australia’s captain, moved up to fourth place after taking seven wickets in the second Test against India. New Zealand’s Matt Henry also climbed to ninth after his strong performance against England.

Brook as a New Era for England

Brook has become the No. 1 Test batter for England cricket, which is a huge moment for the team. It shows how this side is flourishing with new talent coming up. Brook’s fearless batting is reflective of the times and how the game is changing, where people now have to push and deliver based on factors that rapidly keep changing.

Harry Brook

It’s a great sign for the future.” Brook said, citing Root as the ‘benchmark’ for England’s Test team. Brook’s performance is complemented by Joe Root’s mature presence and leadership.

What’s Next?

The third test will be a big opportunity for both Brook and Root to show their skills. If Brook stays at the top, he will confirm his place among the world’s best young players. If Root reclaims the No. 1 spot, it will explain why he is considered one of the greatest Test batters in all of history.

For England, the competition between Brook and Root is good news. They push each other to work at their best, so it helps the team. So, with such talented players in their squad, they are in a strong position to dominate Test cricket for years ahead.

If this means Brook retains the crown or a refreshed Root tries to win it back, one thing is certain: he and Root are raising the game to unprecedented levels as England seeks new heights in Test cricket.
