Dwayne Bravo Joins KKR as Mentor for IPL 2025, Parts Leaves CSK

Dwayne Bravo, the legendary all-rounder from the West Indies, has ended his long-standing association with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and joined Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as a mentor for IPL 2025. Known for his incredible death bowling and leadership skills, Bravo will also supervise the Knight Riders’ teams in various T20 leagues globally.

Bravo’s Journey with CSK

Bravo’s journey with CSK began in 2011, where he quickly became an integral part of the team. Over his career with CSK, he played a pivotal role in winning four IPL titles—three as a player and one as the bowling coach. After retiring as a player following the 2022 season, Bravo transitioned into the coaching staff, where he served as the bowling coach for the 2023 season, helping CSK secure another IPL title.

One of Bravo’s standout achievements in the IPL is his status as the first player to win the Purple Cap twice, awarded to the tournament’s highest wicket-taker. With 183 wickets in 161 matches, he is currently the third-highest wicket-taker in IPL history. His ability to bowl effectively in the death overs made him one of the most feared bowlers in T20 cricket.

Transition to Coaching and Mentorship

Post-retirement, Bravo has been gradually moving into coaching roles. He took on various coaching responsibilities, including serving as a consultant coach for Afghanistan during the 2024 T20 World Cup, where he helped guide the team to their first-ever semi-final appearance.

In his new role at KKR, Bravo will replace Gautam Gambhir, who recently took over as India’s head coach after leading KKR to their third IPL title in 2024. Apart from KKR, Bravo will manage other Knight Riders’ teams in T20 leagues, including Trinbago Knight Riders (CPL), Los Angeles Knight Riders (MLC), and Abu Dhabi Knight Riders (ILT20).

Bravo expressed his excitement about joining KKR, stating, “I’ve been part of the Trinbago Knight Riders for the last 10 years in the CPL. Having played for and against the Knight Riders in various leagues, I have a lot of respect for how they operate.”

Dwayne Bravo’s International Career Stats

Bravo enjoyed an illustrious international cricket career for the West Indies. Over 40 Tests, he scored 2200 runs and took 86 wickets. In ODIs, he played 164 matches, amassing over 2,968 runs and taking 199 wickets. His T20I career was equally remarkable, with 91 matches under his belt, scoring 1,255 runs and taking 78 wickets. Bravo was a key figure in West Indies’ T20 World Cup wins in 2012 and 2016.

His leadership skills were evident when he captained the West Indies and was known for his tactical acumen, particularly in T20 cricket. With over 500 T20 matches globally, Bravo has gained a reputation as one of the most experienced and effective all-rounders in the format.

What KKR Has to Say

KKR CEO Venky Mysore welcomed Bravo’s appointment, saying, “DJ Bravo joining us is an exciting development. His relentless drive to win, along with his vast experience and deep knowledge, will greatly benefit our franchise and players.”

Bravo will join KKR’s coaching team alongside head coach Chandrakant Pandit and bowling coach Bharat Arun, bringing his vast experience and mentorship skills to the team. His influence is expected to strengthen the defending champions as they look to defend their IPL title in 2025.

Looking Ahead: Bravo’s Future with KKR in IPL 2025

As KKR gears up for IPL 2025, Bravo’s mentorship could be the key to unlocking the potential of the younger players. With his extensive experience, especially in death bowling and handling pressure situations, Bravo is expected to help KKR maintain their winning momentum.

Bravo’s transition from a star player to a mentor is a significant moment in his career. His involvement with IPL 2025 is highly anticipated as he brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to Kolkata Knight Riders.

With his unmatched T20 credentials and leadership experience, Bravo’s role at KKR could set new benchmarks for success in the IPL 2025 season and beyond.
