IPL 2025 Auction Date and Retained Players List

IPL 2024 Auction was a mini-auction, now the IPL 2025 will be a mega auction, every team will be given a limited number of options to retain the previous players while the remaining players will go back to the Auction Pool. The expected date of the IPL 2025 Auction will be around December 2024 or February 2025

IPL 2025 Mega Auction Date

The next IPL Mega Auction is likely to be a two-day process like in 2022, the auction 2022 took place in February, while the 2023 and 2024 auctions were held in December, so the IPL 2025 Auction could be possible in December 2024 or February 2025. 

While the 17th season is concluded, there is already news regarding the next edition as the IPL chairman Arun Singh Dhumal has revealed an important update about the IPL 2025 Auction. The right-to-match card will also likely be given to each franchise in the 18th season.

How many players will be allowed in the IPL 2025 Mega Auction?

There is no limit to the amount of players listed at the IPL auction, listed players vary in each season auction. The number of players listed depends on who sign up for the auction, provided the players have been approved by their respective countries and respective Cricket Boards. 

As per the IPL chairman Mr. Dhumal, each team will have the opportunity to retain only 3 or 4 players like in the IPL 2022 mega auction, which saw a total of 204 players being sold for the total amount of Indian Rupees 551 crore. 

In the IPL 2025 Mega Auction, we could see similar figures if the retention number is limited at a maximum of 4 players per team, the official confirmation of retained players will be announced soon by the IPL Board.

Categories of players in IPL 2025 Mega Auctions

There will be different type of categories of players in IPL 2025 Auctions:

  • Capped Players: They are Indian Players who have represented the country’s senior teams in any format at once.
  • Uncapped Players: They are Indian domestic players who are in the first-class circuit but were never part of the International Cricket team of India. 
  • Foreign Players: These players fall under the capped or uncapped of an associate cricket Boar of other countries. Each IPL team is allowed to have a maximum of eight foreign players at a time.

Mitchell Starc was the most expensive player in IPL 2024 Auction. His final sold price was Rs. 247,500,000.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru

RCB has several retention-worthy players.

Kolkata Knight Riders

This would leave them three choices for the last spot.
