Bangladesh comfortable win against Sri Lanka in World cup 2023 warm up match
In their first warm-up match before the ODI World Cup 2023, Bangladesh comfortably defeated Sri Lanka by seven wickets in Guwahati. Bangladesh’s top three batsmen, Tanzid Hasan, Litton Das, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz, all scored half-centuries to secure the victory.
Sri Lanka was bowled out for 263 runs, and Bangladesh successfully chased down the target with eight overs to spare. Along with the match result, Sri Lanka faced concerns as their opener, Kusal Perera, left the field in the 10th over of their innings due to a right shoulder strain after scoring 34 runs off 24 balls.
Tanzid Hasan, who has played only five ODIs since his debut in the Asia Cup in August, was a standout performer for Bangladesh. He scored a brisk 84 off 88 balls, featuring ten fours and two sixes, which kept the Sri Lankan bowlers at bay. His opening partnership of 131 runs with Litton Das (61) set a solid foundation for Bangladesh to chase down Sri Lanka’s total. Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who also captained the team in this match, contributed an unbeaten 67 runs with the bat and had earlier bowled 10 economical overs, taking one wicket for 32 runs.
Sri Lanka had a promising start as Pathum Nissanka partnered with Kusal Perera and Kusal Mendis to add 104 runs before losing their first wicket in the 15th over. Nissanka top-scored with an aggressive 68, and Dhananjaya de Silva made 55 at number six. However, most of the middle-order batsmen struggled to find their rhythm, with offspinner Mahedi Hasan taking three wickets for 36 runs in his nine overs. Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Shoriful Islam, Nasum Ahmed, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz also contributed with one wicket each as they bowled Sri Lanka out in the final over.
Bangladesh’s next warm-up match will be against England on Monday, while Sri Lanka will face Afghanistan on Tuesday. Both matches will be played at the same venue.
